Dear Friends,
I was offered the following 30-06 by SMI for my collection
SMI3006.JPG
Headstamp is
SMI 977
If I look at this site, the latest round made by SMI in 30-06 is 1972 (SMI 972)

is this one very rare ?
What is the latest 30-06 known to be made by SMI ?
Grazie mille
René

Hi René
no, never seen before, it's a novelty
The last dates I know are:
SMI 972
G.F.L. 959
PECA 71
BPD 61
the green annulus is also interesting because in 71/72 it was still black
I imagine with ordinary ball
regards
Giovanni

Very interesting piece, we will have to check the dates on those of the display panels.
Giovanni is right about the color but ... an old factory worker said that for the colors they were not very rigid. SMI also produced civil ammunition and this could be one of those.

Nice piece René, thanks for sharing with us.
I saw late productions likes this one, .303 and 8mm M95 dated 1976 and 1977, made for foreign buyers ( I guess Afrika or Middle East). Perhaps also this .30-06 might be made for export. Indeed in those years in Italy there was a lot of rounds in stock, it would be unuseful to produce new lots for internal purpouses for that caliber.
We have to check SMI archive looking for some clarifications.
